You name it, I can't eat it.

As long as I can remember, I've had food allergies, Melons to avocados. It's a bummer when you go to potluck dinners or buffets. Does that salad have avocados? Does that cupcake have walnut frosting?

Being a new mom, my fear has since transposed itself on to my son's foods. I've become weary of what foods I feed him. I find myself wondering if I'm allergic to it, is he? My son's Dr. stated that after the age of one he could eat anything that is on our plate at home. I've looked for basic signs to tell if you child could have a food allergy.

Allergy
Even just a small amount of the food in question causes a reaction. Your symptoms include hive, swelling, and difficulty breathing. Your reaction could progress rapidly.

In my case this is true. Whenever I eat Walnuts or Melons it seems like with in minutes my mouth has been invaded by the allergy bugs. My lips start to tingle and then begin to swell to twice their size. No, they are not they sexy plump "Jolie type" of lips. (If they did look like that I would buy Melon based lipstick!) It's actually scary to look at and experience. Sometime just one part of my lip swells! I then get hives on my arms and neck. For me the only way to quickly tone down my reaction is to drink a ice cold glass of water. This does not work for everyone so you should see your family Doctor.

Food Intolerance
You can eat small amounts without issues and symptoms include nausea, belly pain, diarrhea, and bloating all of which causes temporary discomfort.

So based on with this information how can I tell if my one year old has the same allergies? Hard when your kid can't even say his own name. How did you discover your child had a food allergy?
